As society continues to progress, the application of flowmeters has expanded into various fields. So, in which fields are flow measurement technologies and instruments applied? Let's share with you by Xinyi Instrumentation!
1、Industrial Production Processes
Flowmeters are one of the major categories of process automation instruments and devices. They are widely used in various fields of the national economy such as metallurgy, electric power, coal, chemicals, petroleum, transportation, construction, textiles, food, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, environmental protection, and people's daily lives. They are important tools for developing industrial and agricultural production, conserving energy, improving product quality, and enhancing economic benefits and management levels, occupying an important position in the national economy. In process automation instruments and devices, flowmeters have two main functions: as detection instruments for process automation control systems and as totalizers for measuring the quantity of materials.
2、Energy Metrology
Energy is divided into primary energy (coal, crude oil, coalbed methane, liquefied petroleum gas, and natural gas), secondary energy (electricity, coke, artificial gas, refined oil, liquefied petroleum gas, and steam), and energy-carrying working media (compressed air, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and water). Energy metrology is an important means for scientific energy management, achieving energy conservation and consumption reduction, and improving economic benefits. Flowmeters are an important part of energy measurement instruments. Large numbers of flowmeters are used for commonly used energy sources such as water, artificial gas, natural gas, steam, and oil products. They are indispensable tools for energy management and economic accounting.
3、Environmental Protection Engineering
The emission of flue gas, waste liquid, sewage, etc., seriously pollutes the atmosphere and water resources, posing a serious threat to the human living environment. The country has made sustainable development a national policy, and environmental protection will be the biggest issue of the 21st century. To control air and water pollution, management must be strengthened, and the foundation of management is quantitative control of pollution levels.
China is a country that relies mainly on coal as an energy source, with millions of chimneys constantly emitting flue gas into the atmosphere. Flue gas emission control is an important project for eradicating pollution. Each chimney must be equipped with flue gas analysis instruments and flowmeters to form a continuous emission monitoring system. The measurement of flue gas flow is very difficult due to factors such as large and irregular chimney sizes, variable gas components, wide flow velocity ranges, dirtiness, dust, corrosion, high temperatures, and the absence of straight pipe sections.
4、Transportation
There are five modes: railway, highway, aviation, water transportation, and pipeline transportation. Although pipeline transportation has existed for a long time, its application is not widespread. With the prominence of environmental protection issues, the characteristics of pipeline transportation have attracted people's attention. Pipeline transportation must be equipped with flowmeters, which are the eyes for control, distribution, and scheduling, as well as essential tools for safety supervision and economic accounting.
5、Biotechnology
The 21st century will usher in the century of life sciences, and industries characterized by biotechnology will develop rapidly. There are many substances that need to be monitored and measured in biotechnology, such as blood and urine. The development of instruments is extremely challenging and involves a wide variety of types.
6、Scientific Experiments
Scientific experiments require a large number of flowmeters, and the types are extremely diverse. According to statistics, a large portion of the more than 100 types of flowmeters are used for scientific research purposes. They are not produced in bulk and sold on the market. Many scientific research institutions and large enterprises have set up special teams to develop dedicated flowmeters.
7、Oceanic Meteorology, Rivers, and Lakes
These areas have open flow channels, and generally, flow velocity needs to be detected to estimate flow rate. The physical principles and fluid mechanics foundations upon which flowmeters and current meters rely are common, but there are significant differences in instrument principles, structures, and usage conditions.
